بعد أسبوع من الزلزال المدمر الذي ضرب نيبال، بقوة بلغت 7.8 درجة على مقياس ريختر، اعتبرت السلطات الرسمية في الدولة الواقعة بوسط آسيا، أن الآمال في العثور على مزيد من الناجين نتيجة كارثة السبت الماضي، أصبحت ضئيلة للغاية.

وقال المتحدث باسم وزارة الداخلية، لاكسمي داكال، السبت: “ستكون معجزة إذا ما تم العثور على أحياء”، إلا أنه تابع بقوله: “ولكننا لم نفقد الأمل كلياً بعد، وسوف نواصل عمليات البحث”، حيث مازال المئات في المناطق التي ضربها الزلزال، في عداد المفقودين.

وبحسب أحدث حصيلة للضحايا، تم الإعلان عنها من قبل المركز الوطني للطوارئ، في حوالي الساعة 8:30 من مساء السبت، أي الساعة 7:40 صباحاً بتوقيت الساحل الشرقي للولايات المتحدة، فقد ارتفع عدد الضحايا إلى 7040 قتيلاً، ونحو 14 ألف و398 جريحاً.

وتُقدر الأمم المتحدة بأن هناك أكثر من ثلاثة ملايين شخص في حاجة إلى مساعدات إنسانية وغذائية عاجلة، وطلبت الحكومة النيبالية من وكالات الإغاثة الدولية تركيز عملياتها في المناطق النائية، فيما تعمل الأجهزة التابعة للحكومة المحلية على توفير المساعدات للسكان بمنطقة وادي كاتماندو.
