وهددت أمريكا برد عسكري وشيك فيما دعا الاتحاد الأوروبي وروسيا إلى التهدئة وخفض التصعيد في المنطقة، وقال الجيش الأمريكي، إن الطائرة التي تمّ إسقاطها كانت تحلق على ارتفاع كبير في المجال الجوي الدولي فوق مضيق هرمز على بعد 34 كيلومترًا تقريبًا من المجال الجوي الإيراني.

وبحسب رويتر، قال الفريق جوزيف جواستيلا، قائد سلاح الجو في الشرق الأوسط، للصحفيين في مقر وزارة الدفاع البنتاغون “هذا الهجوم الخطير والتصعيدي غير مسؤول وقع في محيط ممرات جوية معترف بها قانونًا بين دبي في الإمارات ومسقط بعمان معرضا المدنيين لخطر محتمل”.

وكان ترامب قال إن هذا العمل خطأ جسيم ما كان على إيران القيام به.
